Postpone of Compulsorily Using UKCA Mark

Yesterday, the UK Government made an announcement that they are going to postpone the date on which the use of the UKCA mark becomes compulsory.

The UKCA marking applies to most goods previously subject to the CE marking. It also applies to aerosol products that previously required the ‘reverse epsilon’ marking.

The technical requirements (‘essential requirements’) and the conformity assessment processes and standards that can be used to demonstrate conformity – are largely the same as they were for the CE marking.

The UKCA mark was introduced on 1 January 2021 but, originally, the plan was to allow the CE mark to be recognized in the UK until 1 January 2022.

The announcement made yesterday states that the use of the CE mark has been extended until 1 January 2023.

Those who have already taken the steps to get their products UKCA approved can still move across to using the UKCA mark but there is now an extra year for others to get their certification in place.
